FREDERICTON (GNB) – With the 2016-17 school year beginning this week, students in need of financial assistance, including those who wish to take advantage of the new Tuition Access Bursary, are reminded about the loans, grants and bursaries available to help access and pay for post-secondary education.

“Our government is working to help students by providing more upfront assistance to those families with the greatest financial need, so they can graduate with less debt,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault. “This program will help more New Brunswick students realize the benefits of a post-secondary education and help our province develop a stronger workforce for today’s knowledge-based economy. These types of initiatives will help us get things done and move our province forward.”

The provincial government recently established the Tuition Access Bursary, providing free tuition to New Brunswick students with a demonstrated financial need who have an annual household income of $60,000 or less, and are enrolled in an undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate program at a publicly funded university or college in the province.

In addition to that program, other supports such as the student loan program, the New Brunswick Bursary and the Timely Completion Benefit are available to all students. The government has also removed the parental contribution clause from the student loan equation, making it easier for students to access funds.

“I wish all students attending a post-secondary education institution in New Brunswick this year all the best, whether you are continuing with your academic journey or just starting out,” said Arseneault. “There is no question that your hard work and dedication to achieving a higher education will pay enormous dividends down the road, not only for yourself but for our province as a whole.”
