FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is increasing the number of summer jobs under the Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) program.
The announcement was made today by Premier Brian Gallant and Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry.
“We heard loud and clear from New Brunswickers that we must do more to help our youth,” said Gallant. “Through the Education and New Economy Fund, we will invest more in education, training and innovation. Our government will also provide youth with more opportunities to gain on-the-job training.”
The SEED program pairs post-secondary students with employers during the summer. With this announcement, the provincial government is increasing the number of placements to 1,600, an increase of 200 jobs for youth compared to last year.
This follows a previous announcement that the government has modernized the program and has taken the politics out of the application process.
Interested students are invited to complete the online application for the program and will receive labour market information. Prospective employers can also go online to post their job offers. Students will then be able to choose to apply for the positions most suited to them. Program co-ordinators from the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour will be available to assist with this process.
Online applications for students and employers will be available on April 1.
