FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Youth Employment Fund has resulted in placements for 1,482 young people since its official launch in March 2015.

Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry said the provincial government is committed to taking steps to build a skilled workforce in New Brunswick, and these results show they are on the right track.

“The fund plays an important role in the government’s plan to create the most job-ready generation,” said Landry. “We are proud of this program, and are encouraged by the interest that has been demonstrated by young people and employers in the province.”

Landry said that through the Youth Employment Fund and the recently announced Education and New Economy Fund, the provincial government will invest record amounts in education and youth employment opportunities.

“We are hopeful that we can continue to help young New Brunswickers obtain work experience and training so they can stay here and contribute to our economy,” said Landry.

The Youth Employment Fund is a program designed to provide unemployed youth aged 18-29 with an opportunity to develop skills. It provides an entry point to long-term employment for individuals who require experience as identified through their employment action plan.

Youth and employers can submit an application online.
