FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued by Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Jody Carr in relation to the labour dispute that began at Mount Allison University on Jan 27:

As a government, we recognize that students and the entire Mount Allison university community are affected by this dispute, and we remain hopeful for a speedy resolution while respecting collective bargaining.

Our priority is enabling students to finish their term with the least amount of disruption possible.

We are monitoring the situation closely, and we continue to encourage both parties – the Mount Allison Faculty Association and the administration – to make every effort to resolve this dispute with minimal impact to students and within the provisions of the Industrial Relations Act.

Our preference is that a settlement can be found by both parties working together at the bargaining table.
