FREDERICTON (GNB) – The province has formed a steering committee to work on implementing the recently announced Labour Force and Skills Development strategy. Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Jody Carr made the announcement today.

New Brunswick's Labour Force and Skills Development Strategy 2013-2016 was released in late August and outlines 44 key action items to ensure the availability of a skilled and globally-competitive labour force.

“Our government knows that collaborating with stakeholders and partners is the best way to rebuild our province,” said Carr. “I am pleased to announce the members of the steering committee, all of whom I know are committed to this labour force and skills strategy.”

The members of the steering committee were chosen for their varied experience and their commitment to finding solutions together. They are:

●    Anne Hébert, Conseil économique du Nouveau-Brunswick;
●    Susan Holt, New Brunswick Business Council;
●    Chief Brenda Perley, Assembly of First Nations Chiefs;
●    Leentje Deleuil, New Brunswick Multicultural Council;
●    Patrick Colford, New Brunswick Federation of Labour;
●    David Brown, New Brunswick Nurses’ Union;
●    David Burns, University of New Brunswick;

Staff from the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour will also participate.

“A strong and vibrant workforce is vital to economic growth and job creation,” said Carr. “Our collective goal is to better match the needs of employers, businesses, students, educators, and job seekers. Our government's labour force and skills strategy provides a solid roadmap for us to come together, align our partnerships and strengths, and embrace the actions required to move forward towards a brighter future.”
