MONCTON (GNB) – The winners of the provincial 2013 It's Your Job – Know Your Rights student video contest were announced in Moncton today by Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Danny Soucy.

“I congratulate our winners and thank all the students and schools that participated in this year's video contest,” said Soucy. “Through this initiative, high school students were able to learn more about workplace safety and employee rights, while using their creativity to help raise awareness among young New Brunswickers on this important topic.”

First place contest winners receive a $1,000 team cash prize; second place, $750; and third place, $500. A matching cash prize is awarded to their respective high schools.

Provincial contest winners are:

●    First place, Moncton High School, video – Don't get pushed around;
●    Second place, Saint Mary's Academy (Edmundston), video – Timber;
●    Third place, École Sainte-Anne (Fredericton), video – Chute fatale.

Soucy presented the first place winner with a cheque and a certificate at an award ceremony held at Moncton High School.

The contest, open to New Brunswick high school students, challenged participants to develop an original video that could be used in social media to illustrate either the importance of working safely on the job or the right to be paid fairly. All video submissions were judged by an internal review panel.

Winning entries were automatically entered into the national It's Your Job video contest held May 4-12.

Additional contest information is available online.
