FREDERICTON (GNB) – An online resource that collates information about authors from the province, called the New Brunswick Author Portal, is now available through the New Brunswick Public Library Service.

"The New Brunswick Author Portal is one way we are supporting life-long learning and is also an excellent example of a successful collaboration within government and between New Brunswickers and their government," said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Danny Soucy. "Our department worked with the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture to support the development of this portal.”

The portal was developed by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour with funding from the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture as part of the implementation of the New Brunswick Book Policy. The portal gives New Brunswickers, be they students or curious adults, an easy-to-use tool for learning about local writers.

"New Brunswick is fortunate to have a strong and vibrant literary heritage," said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder. "We are pleased to partner with the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour to help make this innovative way to celebrate our literary history reality."

The portal contains entries for more than 100 authors. Each author has a page that contains some or all of the following elements:

●    a brief autobiography or, for deceased authors, a biography;
●    a list of major literary prizes;
●    a featured publication;
●    an excerpt from his or her work,
●    an interview in which he or she talks about the importance of New Brunswick to his or her work; and
●    his or her favourite New Brunswick book.

Any current or former resident of New Brunswick who has published a written work and who wishes to be included is encouraged to complete the form available on the portal.
