MONCTON (GNB) – Eleven persons from the Moncton area graduated today from the Up-Skilling for Employment Program, a pilot project training unemployed individuals so they get a job.

"Supporting this pilot project is one way our government is helping New Brunswickers gain the skills they need to be successful in the workforce," said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Danny Soucy. "We are pleased to be collaborating with our partners to provide opportunities for the participants."

All of the participants completed the program; some had to overcome significant challenges to take part. They will soon begin 15-week job placements with the intention of the position turning into long-term sustainable and full-time employment.

"Investing in programs that provide training to those facing barriers to employment is a key part of rebuilding New Brunswick together," said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé.  "By supporting this project, we are providing people with the skills and training they need to empower themselves for success in the workforce and, ultimately, enhance their quality of life."

The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, the Department of Social Development and Enterprise Greater Moncton collaborated on the project, which included 10 weeks of Workplace Essential Skills and Job Readiness training.

"Congratulations to all of the graduates today,” said John Thompson, chief executive officer, Enterprise Greater Moncton. “We are absolutely thrilled with the positive outcome of the Up-Skilling for Employment Program. And what a fantastic opportunity for our businesses to employ talented and devoted individuals who are keen to work."
