NICE, France (GNB) – Pierre-André Doucet of Moncton presented a short story that he wrote during the literature competitions held today at the VIIth Jeux de la Francophonie, in Nice, France.

''There are not many job opportunities in Acadie,” said Doucet. “It is often necessary to relocate to elsewhere in Canada, such as the tar sands megaproject in Alberta. This is the story of a young man forced by circumstances to move to Fort McMurray to find work. This is based on a folksong, À la claire fontaine, that is well-known in Acadie and in France. It is about an Acadian who marries an anglophone woman. A small disaccord between the two rapidly becomes a gulf even with the birth of their child.”

A number of presentations will be done on Sept. 11, with the medal ceremonies to be held in the evening.
