BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNB) - Caleb Jones of Saint John established a personal best in the javelin competition at the 6th Games of La Francophonie in Beirut, Lebanon.

Jones threw the javelin 65.98 metres, nine centimetres further than his old mark, and finished in 7th place in the final.

"I am very happy with my participation in the Games," said Jones. "I established a personal best, and I really appreciated my international experience at the Games of La Francophonie."

Nadine Frost of Bocabec finished 7th in the 1,500-metre final, with a time of 4:33.51.

"I am happy with my race," said Frost. "It went well, and I did not finish last. I really appreciated the Games and the international culture. I am 19 years old, and this was my first international race."

Chef de mission Allen Bard of Team Canada - New Brunswick said that he was very satisfied with the performance of all team members in Lebanon.

"We focused on giving our youth an international experience," Bard said. "We use the Games of La Francophonie to provide our athletes and artists with a rich and highly competitive cultural and sporting experience. I am very proud of our participants and their results. Lebanon did an outstanding job with the Games."

The closing ceremonies will be held tonight, and team members will return to New Brunswick on Wednesday evening. This is the first time that Team Canada - New Brunswick has not won a medal at the Games of La Francophonie.

Team Canada - New Brunswick was comprised of 33 members.
