FREDERICTON (CNB) – The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit New Brunswick in May 2012.

Premier David Alward confirmed today the visit will take place as part of their tour of Canada in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Other stops will be in Ontario and Saskatchewan.

"We look forward to welcoming The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall to New Brunswick in the new year," said Alward. "We are honoured to host them, and it will be our pleasure to join with them and all New Brunswickers in celebration of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee."

The Prince of Wales last came to New Brunswick in April 1996 when he visited Fredericton, Saint John, Miramichi and Caraquet.

The tour of Canada by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall is intended to highlight service as the life-long royal duty of The Queen and the Royal Family and how serving others plays a critical role in Canadian society.

More details about the visit, including the formal agenda, will be released later. The New Brunswick program will be developed in co-operation with the federal government and Buckingham Palace.

Celebrations of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee are being planned throughout Canada in honour of her reign, service and dedication as Queen of Canada during the last 60 years.
