FREDERICTON (CNB) - Wooden boxes have been made to hold the New Brunswick flags presented to the families of deceased honoured New Brunswickers.

Traditionally, the flag at the legislative assembly is flown at half-mast to honour the death of prominent New Brunswickers and then presented to the family of the deceased. The special boxes are being made by staff and residents of the New Brunswick Youth Centre in Miramichi. The first two boxes were presented recently to the Office of Protocol at the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs.

"These boxes are an excellent way to showcase these special flags, which are a sign of our honour and respect for deceased New Brunswickers who have served this province," said Premier Shawn Graham.

The boxes are made from maple, and measure 30 cm by 30 cm.

"This was a great way for the staff of the New Brunswick Youth Centre to teach new skills to the residents, and give them an opportunity to give back to the community," said Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General John W. Foran. "I am very proud of the fine job done on this important project."
