GRANDE-ANSE (CNB) - The New Brunswick government will contribute an additional $800,000 toward the organization of the 2009 World Acadian Congress, Premier Shawn Graham announced today.

"The World Acadian Congress will be an incredible opportunity for New Brunswick to take the spotlight and highlight all that is great in our province," the Premier said. "I am here to reconfirm the New Brunswick government's commitment to this important event."

The announcement was made in the presence of representatives of neighbouring communities and municipalities, organizations taking part in World Acadian Congress programming, the World Acadian Congress board of directors and staff, and its financial partners. The $800,000 is in addition to funds already committed under various programs, and brings the total to more than $2 million.

The Premier also announced extra funding of $100,000 for World Acadian Congress promotional activities that will take place on Friday, Aug. 15, in Quebec City as part of New Brunswick Day festivities.

"Just as we celebrated the 400th anniversary of the founding of Acadia in 2004, I am very pleased to announce today that New Brunswick will ensure an Acadian presence at Quebec City's 400th anniversary celebrations," Graham said. "On Friday, Aug. 15, we will host a day filled with festive activities that will showcase our province's vitality and innovative spirit, our Acadian colours, and the many assets of our magnificent part of the country."

On Aug. 15, New Brunswick will welcome visitors to the Francodôme, an imposing geodesic structure that will be set up in the Parc de l'Esplanade in Old Quebec. There will be cultural activities, presentations of products and innovations, and a series of promotional events. The World Acadian Congress will put on a show that evening in the Agora du Vieux Port. The New Brunswick government will also support the Société nationale de l'Acadie in organizing a huge tintamarre.

"New Brunswick will not fail to make an impression," the Premier said. "We will be inviting all of our visitors to come to the Acadian Peninsula in August 2009 to experience the event of the year and enjoy our legendary Acadian hospitality."
