FREDERICTON (GNB) – Applications are now available for the 2018 Home Energy Assistance Program to help low-income families cope with high energy bills.

“Your government understands some New Brunswickers may need financial support during the coldest months of the year,” said Finance Minister Cathy Rogers. “We are committed to supporting families and children. This program will help keep homes safe and warm this winter.”

The one-time payment of $100 will be provided to households with a total income of up to and including $30,000 in 2016.

Last year, the provincial government raised the income threshold from the previous level of $28,000.

The program is one of several available to help families in need.

There were 46,834 applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program in 2017 for a total benefit to families of about $4.68 million.‎ Individuals may obtain an application form by going to the Department of Finance website, visiting any of the Service New Brunswick centres or contacting the department of Finance at 1-800-669-7070.

The deadline to apply for the 2018 benefit is June 30.
