MONCTON (GNB) – Demolition of the carpentry shop and science labs is underway as upgrades continue at Harrison Trimble High School. The project, which began in 2015, is expected to be completed in 2019.
“This mid-life upgrade is extending the life of the building for future generations of Moncton students,” said Finance Minister Cathy Rogers. “Your government understands the importance of investing strategically to maintain our public infrastructure.”
Rogers spoke on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser.
The school was built in 1961 and has 935 students in Grades 9 through 12. The current phase of the upgrade project includes creating a new family studies and culinary space, constructing a new administrative area, and improvements to the music room, labs and vocational area.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and general contractor Foulem Construction have been working with school administration and the Anglophone East School District as classes continue during construction.
“These upgrades will improve the quality of learning for our students, as well as the working environment of our teachers and support staff,” said Rogers.
The government’s 10-year education plans aim to improve educational outcomes and better prepare young people for the future. They set objectives in priority areas to create lifelong learners, support educational leaders and bring stability to the system.
Strategic infrastructure investments are a key element of the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, the government’s framework to move the economy forward.
