FREDERICTION (GNB) – The provincial government today tabled in the legislature the Supplementary Estimates for expenditures that occurred in the 2015-16 fiscal year that were not anticipated when the Main Estimates were tabled.

The Supplementary Estimate of $56.6 million represents less than one per cent of the provincial budget. This is the second-lowest annual supplementary estimates in the past 15 years.

By far the largest single expenditure was $33.2 million for disaster financial assistance which is mostly offset by federal revenue.

Other spending items include:

  • $4.9 million investment in the Labour Market Development program;
  • $3.1 million in extra demands under the Long Term Care program;
  • $3.2 million additional expense from revenue-sharing agreements with First Nations; and
  • $9.4 million in Medicare.
