FREDERICTON (GNB) – Applications for the 2015 Low-Income Seniors' Benefit are now available.

“Making life easier for New Brunswick families, including our senior residents, is one of our government’s top priorities” said Finance Minister Roger Melanson. “The $400 low-income seniors’ benefit provided assistance for 40,983 seniors in 2014, totalling more than $16.3 million in payments.”

To be eligible for the benefit, a person must have been a resident of New Brunswick on Dec. 31, 2014, and have received one of the following federal benefits under the Old Age Security Act:

  • Guaranteed Income Supplement (65 years or older);
  • Allowance for Survivor Program (between 60 and 64 years old); or
  • Allowance Program (between 60 and 64 years old).

“Our government is proud to help some of our province’s most vulnerable residents,” said Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers. “I encourage all eligible low-income seniors to take advantage of this benefit that was created especially for them.”

Applications are now available at Service New Brunswick centres and online at both the Department of Finance and Service New Brunswick websites. Completed applications may be returned to the Department of Finance, P.O. Box 3000, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 5G5. The last day to apply is Nov. 30, 2015.
