FREDERICTON (GNB) – Application forms for the 2013 Home Energy Assistance Program will be available Jan. 3, 2013.

"Last year, our government extended this $100-benefit for five years to help New Brunswick families cope with their heating bills," said Finance Minister Blaine Higgs. "More than 49,000 applications were received in 2012, and the program has benefited 95,901 families since our government re-instated the program in 2010."

The benefit will be provided to those who had incomes up to $28,000 in 2011. Benefits to qualifying applicants will be issued within four weeks of a completed application being received.

"This is an important program that our government is proud to have re-instated," said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. "For New Brunswick families that need help paying their heating bills, this funding can be a critical safety net that allows them to keep their homes warm, safe and comfortable."

Individuals may apply by going to the Department of Finance or Service New Brunswick websites or by calling toll-free, 1-800-669-7070. Forms are also available at Service New Brunswick outlets.
