FREDERICTON (CNB) – The dates for the public consultation meetings on enhancing local governance in New Brunswick have been announced and the consultation website has been launched. Local Government Minister Bruce Fitch, who is also minister responsible for Service New Brunswick, made the announcement today.

"The website launch is an important step in our consultation process," said Fitch."We want to ensure all New Brunswickers have the opportunity to get informed on the subject and participate in enhancing local governance."

The website includes fact sheets on regional service delivery; property tax and assessment; and municipal funding arrangements. In the coming weeks, surveys on each of these subjects will be posted as well as the ability for individuals or groups to attach and post position papers.

"There have been many studies done on this topic over the past 40 years; now it is time to enhance local governance for the next 40 years," added Fitch. "I encourage all New Brunswickers to participate. Together we will enhance local governance."

An advisory group has been established to provide input throughout the consultation process. The minister chairs the group and is joined by the four municipal associations as well as representatives from local service districts and the business community.

More information is available on the Department of Local Government website.
