FREDERICTON (GNB) – Johanne Bray has been appointed deputy minister of Justice and deputy minister of the Office of the Attorney General effective June 2. Premier David Alward made the announcement today.

"This is another appointment that emphasizes our government's commitment to hire highly-qualified individuals for key government roles through an open and transparent recruitment process," said Alward. "Johanne's experience in results-based management and problem-solving and in dealing with high-profile, complex legal matters, will serve her well in this new role."

Bray is knowledgeable and experienced, having managed legal matters for senior management groups and boards, and having provided advice on drafting policy and the interpretation of law. In recent years she has served as university secretary and general counsel at Carleton University; and general counsel for the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada. She holds three degrees including a bachelor of laws, a bachelor of arts in criminology and a bachelor of arts in psychology, all from the University of Ottawa.

Alward thanked acting deputy minister Guy Daigle who will return to his role within the department when Bray takes up her responsibilities in June.

"I thank Guy for his work as acting deputy minister and for his continuing dedication and service to his fellow New Brunswickers," Alward said.
