FREDERICTON (GNB) – Kelli Simmonds has been appointed deputy minister of Healthy and Inclusive Communities, effective Dec. 21.

"I am confident that Kelli's years of civil service experience, legal expertise and teaching knowledge will support the efforts in the Department of Healthy and Inclusive Communities," said Premier David Alward. "Her leadership will help us with our work as we continue to rebuild our province."

Simmonds holds a master of laws and has a strong background in policy and legislative development; years of federal and provincial relations development; and strategic planning experience. Her civil service career includes several assistant deputy minister positions in the policy areas of post-secondary education, training and labour; social development; health; and transportation and infrastructure.

Alward thanked the retiring deputy minister, Carolyn MacKay, for her years of service to New Brunswickers.

"I thank Carolyn for her dedication throughout her career and for her service to her fellow New Brunswickers," Alward said. "I remain confident in the leadership team she has helped to build as it continues to improve the quality of life in our province.”
