FREDERICTON (CNB) – A number of government MLAs from all regions of the province will take on additional duties as legislative secretaries, effective immediately.

Premier David Alward made the appointments to help cabinet ministers carry out their duties.

"I am pleased that these hard-working MLAs have agreed to take on additional responsibilities," said Alward. "These members will work with ministers to ensure New Brunswickers are served in the best possible way by this government."

Alward added that legislative secretaries will consult stakeholders; contribute to the citizen engagement process; provide regional and linguistic balance to the government team; and represent their minister in the legislature during debate on government bills and in question period as required.

The MLAs will not receive compensation for the duties related to these positions.

Following is a list of the appointments:

●    Brian Macdonald (Fredericton-Silverwood): legislative secretary to the premier, responsible for intergovernmental affairs and military affairs.
●    Wes McLean (Victoria-Tobique): legislative secretary to the premier, responsible for citizen engagement.
●    Glen Savoie (Saint John Fundy): legislative secretary to the minister of economic development, responsible for business development.
●    Greg Davis (Campbellton-Restigouche Centre): legislative secretary to the minister of economic development, responsible for northern development and rural affairs.
●    Glen Tait (Saint John East): legislative secretary to the minister of finance.
●    Dorothy Shephard (Saint John Lancaster): legislative secretary to the minister of local government.
●    Claude Landry (Tracadie-Sheila): legislative secretary to the minister of education and early childhood development.
●    Sherry Wilson (Petitcodiac): legislative secretary to the minister of health.
●    Troy Lifford (Fredericton-Nashwaaksis): legislative secretary to the minister of natural resources.
●    Pam Lynch (Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak): legislative secretary to the minister of environment, status of women and Communications New Brunswick.
●    Carl Killen (Saint John Harbour): legislative secretary to the minister of post-secondary education, training and labour.
●    Danny Soucy (Grand Falls-Drummond-Saint-André): legislative secretary to the minister of social development.
●    Serge Robichaud (Miramichi Bay-Neguac): legislative secretary to the minister of agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries, responsible for fisheries and aquaculture.
●    Yvon Bonenfant (Madawaska-les-Lacs): legislative secretary to the minister of agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries, responsible for agriculture.
●    Ross Wetmore (Grand Lake-Gagetown): legislative secretary to the minister of transportation and infrastructure.
●    Ryan Riordon (Nepisiguit): legislative secretary to the minister of tourism and parks; minister of wellness, culture and sport.
