FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Energy and Resource Development advises that the Bass River Trail Bridge, east of Bathurst, remains open. Repairs, originally scheduled from Jan. 16 to Feb. 12, have been postponed until further notice.

The bridge is on a popular snowmobile trail between Bathurst and the Acadian Peninsula.

Local snowmobile clubs and the New Brunswick Federation of Snowmobile Clubs have been made aware of the postponement. Updates on the repair schedule will be available in the coming weeks.

Work will include replacement of the deck surface and railings. The building and attachment of deck components will be completed using a new technique that is expected to double the lifespan of the components. The cost of the repair work is estimated at $50,000.
