FREDERICTON (GNB) – Anyone wanting to apply for a chance to be drawn for the 2016 moose hunt may do so from May 16 to June 10.

An additional 51 licences are available for the five-day season this year, bringing the total to 4,643. The season runs from Sept. 20 to 24.

“We wish good luck to all the applicants,” said Natural Resources Minister Denis Landry. “The moose draw is one of the most popular draws we have in the department. It is truly impressive how many people apply each year.”

Last year, more than 60,000 people applied for the 4,592 licences available. A total of 3,729 hunters were successful in the hunt.

Applications for a moose licence may be made by:

• calling 1-900-565-1500. Callers will have the application fee billed to the number from where they call;

• calling 1-888-922-3729 (toll-free). The application fee will be billed to the caller's Visa or MasterCard account;

• visiting the Department of Natural Resources’ website, through the new e-licensing system. The application fee will be billed to the applicant’s Visa, MasterCard or debit account; or by

• going in person to an authorized vendor or any Service New Brunswick centre.

The cost of applying for a moose licence remains at $9.38 (HST included).

Hunters have until closing time on June 10 to apply for the draw in person; until 8 p.m. the same day to apply by telephone; and until midnight to apply online.

More information is available on the department’s website as well as at all department offices, vendors and Service New Brunswick centres. The results will be available July 4.

Landry reminded hunters that it is no longer possible to use Medicare cards to apply for the moose draw. By obtaining an Outdoors Card through the e-licensing system, applicants can preserve the draw history from previous applications.
