SAINT JOHN (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant hosted an Opportunities Summit for the provincial energy sector today in Saint John.

“The energy sector is crucial to our province’s economy,” said Gallant. “The responsible development of our energy projects will create jobs for New Brunswickers.”

The energy sector in New Brunswick employs more than 7,500 people and contributes $1.9 billion annually to the provincial GDP. In 2013, the province’s energy exports exceeded $10 billion.

“It is important that the energy sector continues to prosper as it is critical for the economic well-being of our province,” said Energy and Mines Minister Donald Arseneault.

A series of Opportunities Summits are taking place around the province to identify new prospects for creating jobs and economic growth in New Brunswick. The growth opportunities identified will be reviewed and evaluated for development as part of an economic action plan for the province.
