FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has launched a home insulation energy savings program through NB Power to reduce energy use and lower costs for consumers.
The Home Insulation Energy Savings Program provides advice and targeted financial incentives for insulation and air-sealing upgrades.
“Our government is committed to ensuring New Brunswickers get the maximum benefit for the energy they use,” said Energy and Mines Minister Donald Arseneault. “This program will help families maximize energy efficiency in their homes, increase environmental sustainability in our communities, and create jobs in the construction industry through support for home renovations.”
Homeowners can register for a home evaluation online or by calling 1-800-663-6272. The evaluation, which costs $210, will determine the current levels of insulation and air leakage in the home prior to beginning upgrades.
The homeowner has nine months to complete the upgrades and have a second, no-cost evaluation to measure the reduction in air leakage, determine the financial incentive amount and estimate potential energy savings.
“We want to help customers stop paying for electricity they do not need,” said Gaëtan Thomas, president and CEO of NB Power. “We are proud to deliver the home insulation savings program because we know that improving the envelope of your home is the best way to make it energy efficient. Insulation and air sealing are cost-effective upgrades which can significantly reduce your home’s heating and cooling costs.”
