FREDERICTON (GNB) – Anglers will be able to apply from Feb. 10 to March 7, 2014, to fish Regular Crown Reserve waters this summer.

“I am pleased to inform anglers that the department is working on several initiatives which will provide even greater opportunities to fish on Crown waters this coming season,” said Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud. “We are in the process of streamlining the application process, and in some cases, even decreasing administration fees. This is all good news for the many men and women who enjoy fishing our world-renowned waters.”

In the past, anglers were able to apply in early January. The new February date will allow more time for department officials to put the new initiatives in place while still providing anglers a one-month period to submit their Regular Crown Reserve applications.

The new initiatives will be announced early in the new year and will be posted on the government web site for a 30-day period to allow for public feedback.

Salmon fishing on most Regular Crown Reserve waters is permitted from June 10 to Sept. 15.  Some exceptions apply depending on the specific stretch of river.
