FREDERICTON (GNB) – Premier David Alward and Energy and Mines Minister Craig Leonard are looking forward to discussions of a potential west-east pipeline with Alberta Premier Alison Redford on Monday, Feb 4.

"I am pleased to be working directly with Premier Redford and Alberta business leaders to help make a west-east pipeline a reality," said Alward. "Through its strategic location, infrastructure and skilled workforce, New Brunswick is well-positioned to add significant value to Canada's natural resources."

New Brunswick, home to the biggest refinery in Canada, has on a number of occasions been able to deliver large industrial natural resource projects successfully.

The province has an efficient Environmental Impact Assessment; works well with federal officials on environmental studies; and has been able to see such projects as the Canaport LNG and Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline reach success in the past years.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for all Canadians," said Alward. "Our government is committed to doing all it can to ensure New Brunswickers can participate in Canada's natural resource-driven prosperity from right here at home."

For his part, Leonard said the west-east pipeline could be part of a multi-faceted growth in the energy sector in the years to come that will bode well for the province.

"New Brunswick can play a key role in Canada's energy outlook,” said Leonard. “We are pleased to continue this important dialogue with our colleagues in western Canada."
