Environment and Local Government
Overview
The Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) was a federal-provincial cost-shared program, which targeted municipal and rural infrastructure that improved the quality of life and economic opportunities for communities.
*Please note that applications for this program are now closed; no further applications will be accepted.
Eligibility
Municipalities, as well as non-government organizations whose proposals were supported by municipal resolution.
Description
The MRIF included a strong “green” element. 70 percent of the funds supported projects that lead to cleaner water. These included improvements to local systems for water and waste water.
The funds were also invested in infrastructure projects that promoted local culture and recreation.
A federal-provincial Management Committee accepted and analyzed project proposals, and made funding recommendation to the responsible federal and provincial ministers.
