FREDERICTON (GNB) – Northern Energy Solutions Ltd. will be issued a Class 1 air quality approval for a wood-pellet manufacturing facility in Miramichi.

The approval follows a public-consultation period that ran from Nov. 23, 2018, to March 28, 2019.

The plant, which will be located on part of the former UPM Kymmene pulp and paper site, will produce 275,000 tonnes of wood pellets annually with additional capacity of up to 315,000 tonnes, depending on operating conditions. It is expected to employ 65 people when fully operational.

Class 1 industrial facilities are required to comply with the Air Quality Regulation under the Clean Air Act and to operate under the terms and conditions established in the approval to operate.
