SHIPPAGAN (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments are investing almost $340,000 in a new infrastructure project in Shippagan.

“Your government cares about the health of all New Brunswickers,” said Agriculture, Mines and Rural Affairs Minister Wilfred Roussel. “These investments will ensure the construction of critical infrastructure that will have a lasting and positive impact on the quality of life of the residents of these municipalities.”

Roussel spoke on behalf of Environment and Local Government Minister Andrew Harvey.

Through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, the Town of Shippagan will build sanitary sewers on à Tom Street.

“Investing in water and wastewater treatment infrastructure is essential to maintaining a healthy environment and providing access to clean, reliable drinking water,” said Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier. “The Government of Canada is working with provinces, territories and municipalities across the country to support important projects like the one in Shippagan, which ensure that Canadian communities are sustainable and healthy now and for years to come.”

Cormier attended for federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister François-Philippe Champagne.

The provincial government is investing more than $84,000 in this project, while the federal government is investing close to $170,000. The Town of Shippagan will provide the remaining funding.

The Clean Water and Wastewater Fund aims to improve the safety and quality of water while supporting a clean economy.

“We are particularly proud to be able to do the necessary work for our residents who do not yet have access to sanitary sewer services,” said Shippagan Mayor Anita Savoie Robichaud. “This funding will also help those who are experiencing problems with their septic systems.”
