BATHURST (GNB) – Bathurst Redevelopment Inc. has been charged in provincial court in Bathurst with violating the Clean Environment Act by failing to comply with a ministerial order.

On April 16, Environment and Local Government Minister Brian Kenny issued a ministerial order to the company to clean up the former Smurfit-Stone mill site. The order expired on Aug. 14.

Companies found guilty of violations under the act could face penalties of up to $1 million.

The matter is scheduled to be heard in provincial court in Bathurst on Sept. 28.
