DRUMMOND (GNB) – Chateau Heights, Chemin des Huîtres, Drummond, Dundee and Saint-Léonard will soon benefit from improvements to local water and wastewater infrastructure thanks to federal investments made through the Gas Tax Fund.

To ensure year-round access to clean, safe drinking water in Chateau Heights, a number of households experiencing water shortage will be connected to Fredericton’s system. Further, a total of 21 permanent and seasonal residences currently drawing water from private wells in Chemin des Huîtres will now be supplied by the Haut-Shippagan Road water main.

“Responsible management of our water and wastewater systems is key to fostering a cleaner environment,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Danny Soucy. “We are helping local service districts to upgrade their infrastructure and improve their sustainability. This contributes to a better quality of life for all New Brunswickers.”

New and extended wastewater collection services will supplement the existing wastewater treatment systems in Chateau Heights, Drummond, Dundee and Saint-Léonard. This will help continue to ensure effective wastewater disposal while preserving the health and safety of residents and the environment for years to come.

“Our government is pleased to provide municipalities with flexible infrastructure funding that allows them to support projects that address the needs of their community,” said the federal Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Bernard Valcourt. “These improvements, made possible through the federal Gas Tax Fund, will ensure safe and clean drinking water and modern wastewater treatment services for New Brunswick residents. Going forward, our investments through the Gas Tax Fund will continue to generate economic growth and job creation across New Brunswick communities for years to come.”

“These improved water and wastewater services demonstrate the federal government’s commitment to building stronger communities, safer and more prosperous cities, modernizing and developing our infrastructure as well as supporting measures to help preserve the environment,” said Tobique-Mactaquac MP Mike Allen.
