CAP-PELÉ (GNB) – The provincial government will invest more than $1.5 million in paving, chip seal and culvert replacement work in the Cap-Pelé area this year as part of its 2018-19 capital budget.

“To ensure our economy continues to move forward, we must maintain and improve our transportation infrastructure,” said Shediac-Beaubassin-Cap-Pelé MLA Victor Boudreau. “Your government has continued to invest strategically in roads and highways to spur economic development, create jobs and ensure our transportation links are safe.”

Boudreau attended for Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser.

In Beaubassin East, the government will chip seal a 4.7-kilometre section of Route 945 between the Cormier Village Road and Route 933, a 900-metre section of de l’Île Road and a 400-metre section of Poucette Road.

A culvert will be replaced on the Cormier Village Road and repairs will continue on the Bear Creek No. 1 Bridge on Aboujagane Road.

Under the Municipal Designated Highway Program, the government and the Village of Cap-Pelé will fund the paving of one kilometre of Route 950 from the village limit toward Eddy Street and from the Cormier Street area to Adolphe Street.

The program allows municipalities to apply for funding assistance for capital upgrade projects. Funding for the program has more than doubled since the 2014-15 fiscal year, increasing to $25 million in 2015. It has remained at that level as part of a government commitment to sustain funding for municipalities.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s $688.2-million capital budget reflects the government’s priority of investing strategically in its buildings, highways and bridges. Strategic investments in infrastructure are a key component of the multi-year New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, the government’s framework for growing the economy and creating jobs.
