MONCTON (GNB) – The provincial government plans to award a tender this month for the third phase of the mid-life upgrade at Harrison Trimble High School. Renovations began in 2015 and are scheduled to be completed during the 2018-19 fiscal year.

“Your government understands that strategic investments are crucial to maintaining our public infrastructure,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser. “Renovating a large-scale school like Harrison Trimble is a practical and efficient way to extend the life of the building.”

The school was built in 1961 and has 935 students in Grades 9 through 12. The first two phases of this upgrade included interior renovations, work on spaces between the building’s interior and exterior, and improvements to the building systems.

The third phase of the project, set to begin this year, includes work on the administrative area, labs and vocational area.

“Upgrading schools and retrofitting spaces to align with current teaching methods and the modern needs of staff and students enhances opportunities for quality learning,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Brian Kenny. “The renovations being undertaken at Harrison Trimble will improve the learning experience for all students, which is a primary goal of our 10-year education plans.”

The government’s 10-year education plans aim to improve educational outcomes and better prepare young people for the future. They set objectives in priority areas to create lifelong learners, support educational leaders and bring stability to the system.
