SEVOGLE (GNB) – Pulverizing and chip sealing will be undertaken this year on a 10.2-kilometre section of Northwest Road near Sevogle, in Northumberland County.

“Having modern infrastructure is a key to the sustainability and growth of any community,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser. “We know communities depend upon having a strong provincial partner in order to grow and develop. We are listening to them and we are getting things done.”

Chip seal projects, like the one on Northwest Road, have been a regional focus for the department over the past three years. This road received two kilometres of work in 2016 and five kilometres of work, plus two kilometres of asphalt, in 2015.

“When you invest in communities, you invest in people,” said Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Lisa Harris. “We are working hard to make sure New Brunswick is one of the best places in Canada to work, live and raise a family. This is a beautiful area of our province, one that is more than deserving of an investment like this. Infrastructure projects of this kind are important for building sustainable communities.”

The work is in addition to the $33 million in capital projects to improve roads, bridges and highways in the greater Miramichi region identified in the capital budget.

In addition to the project on Northwest Road, the following Northumberland County roads will also receive various degrees of pulverizing, grading and chip seal work:

  • Indian Gardens Road
  • Route 430
  • Ross Road
  • Route 420
  • Oak Point Road
  • Whites Brook Road

The province’s $775.6-million capital budget, which includes the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s capital budget of $638.5 million, reflects the government’s priority to support its public buildings, highways and bridges.
