LAMÈQUE (GNB) – The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will make repairs to the Lamèque-Shippagan bridge this year.

This year’s work will include steel upgrades in the lift span, along with concrete superstructure and pier improvements.

“Our government is focused on the priorities of New Brunswickers. We understand the impact the right investment can have if made at the right time,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser.

More than $76 million will be invested in New Brunswick bridges this year as part of the department’s capital budget.

“The eventual replacement of the Lamèque-Shippagan bridge will involve a long and complex planning and design process. The work we are doing this year is meant to ensure the existing bridge remains serviceable through the anticipated long planning period.”

The province’s $757.9-million capital budget, which includes the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s capital budget of $638.5 million, reflects the government’s priority to support public buildings, highways and bridges that are the responsibility of the province.
