GRAND FALLS (GNB) – An estimated $1.9 million in road upgrades will soon begin in Grand Falls, Saint-Léonard, Drummond and Saint-André under the Municipal Designated Highway Program.

“The provincial government is pleased to invest in these projects that will improve quality of life and facilitate travel for New Brunswickers,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson. “Investing in upgrades to our transportation network is just one more way New Brunswick is working to create the climate for job creation and economic growth.”

Upgrades include:

  • in Grand Falls – paving a 0.5-km section of Route 108 (Tobique Road), from Evangéline Street to Deschênes Street and paving a 1.4-km section of Route 130 (Portage Road), from Morrissey Street to the town limit;
  • in Saint-Léonard – paving a 1-km section of Route 144, from Cyr Street to Lanteigne Street;
  • in Saint-André – paving a 1.7-km section of Route 255, from De l’Église Road to Ed Levesque Road; and
  • in Drummond – paving a 1-km section of Route 108, from the village limit towards Gagnon Street.

Under the Municipal Designated Highway Program, municipalities apply to the provincial government for funding assistance for capital upgrades. The province provides $25 million in funding each year for priority projects.
