ATHOLVILLE (GNB) – Road upgrades totalling more than $2 million will soon begin in Restigouche County under the Municipal Designated Highway Program.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson made the announcement today in Atholville.

“The provincial government is proud to be investing in these major municipal projects,” said Melanson. “By developing and improving our roads and infrastructure we can promote our economic growth by creating jobs, supporting our communities, and ensuring the safety of New Brunswickers.”

Upgrades will include:

  • in Atholville – paving a 1.6-km section of Val d’Amours Road, from the village limits to the section at the entrance to Sugarloaf Provincial Park;
  • in Kedgwick – paving a 1-km section of Route 260, from Route 17 to the village limits;
  • in Saint-Quentin – replacing a culvert on Route 180 and installing a storm sewer system on Route 17, from Centennial Park to the town limits;
  • in Tide Head – paving a 1-km section of Route 134 (Restigouche Drive) from Mountain Street to Duncan Street; and
  • in Balmoral – paving a 2.3-km section of Route 275 (Des Pionniers Avenue) from Drapeau Street to civic number 1017.

Under the Municipal Designated Highway Program municipalities apply to the provincial government for funding assistance for capital upgrades. The province provides funding each year for priority projects.
