FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has revised it Work Area Traffic Control Manual.

Any work that takes place within the right-of-way of a provincial road must conform to the guidelines prescribed by the manual.

“Safety is of the utmost importance, and these updated requirements were developed to help make construction sites safer,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson. “I encourage training and trucking companies, department employees, contractors and anyone involved in traffic control to review the Work Area Traffic Control Manual for these updates. This revised manual will help to ensure their safety and the safety of the public on highway contracts and projects.”

Updates to the manual were made in 2015 and became effective Jan. 1, 2016. The manual provides a uniform set of guidelines for highway projects and contracts on all provincial roads.

Melanson reminded motorists to reduce their speed in construction zones, drive safely and be conscious of highway workers.

All users are encouraged to download the new revised manual which is available on the department’s website. The Work Area Traffic Control Manual is free of charge.
