LE GOULET (GNB) – Work is underway on storm sewer infrastructure upgrades and the installation of a pumping station in the Village of Le Goulet.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson announced today that the department has committed funding for 50 per cent of the project costs up to a maximum of $300,000 for the first phase of work.

“The province is proud to be investing in this important municipal project,” said Melanson. “This investment reflects our government’s commitment to boost the economy in the short term through job creation and in the long term through the reconstruction and renewal of our infrastructure. The municipality and the provincial government are working in partnership to support the sustainability of this community and its jobs.”

The project includes repairing existing catch basins, cleaning the existing storm sewer system and installing a new storm water pumping station.

“The Village of Le Goulet is pleased the provincial government is committed to building stronger communities by modernizing and developing municipal infrastructure,” said Le Goulet Mayor Paul-Aimé Mallet. “These investments create jobs and improve life in our communities.”

The provincial government is investing $31.9 million to improve bridges, roads and highways in the Acadian Peninsula.

In addition to the water infrastructure upgrades for Le Goulet, several projects are being carried out in the region this construction season including:

  • paving 6.9 km of Route 113 between Octave Street towards Petit-Pokemouche Road and realignment near Campbells River;
  • repairing the Pokemouche River Bridge No. 2 on Route 113.
