DIEPPE (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments are investing in an infrastructure project to improve Acadie Avenue/Amirault Street in Dieppe.

"Investing in infrastructure renewal projects is essential to maintaining an efficient transportation network in our province,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “It is part of our government’s focus on doing our part so businesses and New Brunswickers can create more jobs here."

The project involves reconstructing 1.1 km of Acadie/Amirault between Alain Gillette Street and Chartersville Road. The underlying infrastructure will also be improved. This work will significantly improve driver safety and the movement of goods along this route.

"The provincial government is proud to be a funding partner through its Strategic Infrastructure Initiative, which will see important upgrades to municipal infrastructure in Dieppe,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson. “This investment reflects our government’s commitment to boost our economy in the short-term through job creation and in the long-term through the reconstruction and renewal of strategic infrastructure resources.”

The provincial government will invest up to $4.5 million in the project through its Strategic Infrastructure Initiative while the federal government has identified the project for funding consideration of up to $4.4 million under the New Building Canada Plan in New Brunswick. The City of Dieppe will be responsible for the remaining cost of the project.

“With the New Building Canada Fund, our government’s support for public infrastructure has never been stronger,” said Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe MP Robert Goguen. “We are pleased to work with the Government of New Brunswick to approve projects under the New Building Canada Fund. Investing in the rehabilitation of Acadie/Amirault will ensure that infrastructure funding continues to flow as we focus on creating jobs, promoting growth, and building strong, prosperous communities across Canada.”

Goguen attended the event for federal Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs Denis Lebel.

“We are incredibly happy that our two levels of government are interested in funding this project that is a top priority for our city,” said Dieppe Mayor Yvon Lapierre. “Reconstructing Acadie Avenue/Amirault Street is an important project for the people and will greatly improve the traffic flow in our municipality. The raising of the road will reduce the flood risk, hence the reason we want to start this project as soon as possible.”
