MONCTON (GNB) – A new partnership with the Moncton Hospital Foundation has been announced to address long-standing space issues in the hospital's oncology department.
"The oncology clinic at the Moncton Hospital has long dealt with space constraints that pose challenges to patient care and privacy,” said Health Minister Madeleine Dubé. “As a result, this project was identified as a top infrastructure priority at the Moncton Hospital, and it has tremendous support from the community through the foundation.”
About $9 million will be invested in the new clinic. The hospital's former laboratory and X-ray wings, which are currently vacant, will be demolished to provide space for the new addition. An additional 40 parking spaces will be created. Funding for functional and architectural planning was included in the 2012-13 capital budget. The project is scheduled for completion in the 2014-15 fiscal year.
"This new infrastructure will provide the Moncton Hospital with the additional space it requires to provide oncology services in the region," said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. "This key investment will enhance the hospital and improve quality of life for New Brunswickers."
The foundation will provide $1 million, which was raised in partnership with the former South East Regional Health Authority. Horizon Health Network continued to support the foundation's work.
"The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation is pleased to partner with the Government of New Brunswick and Horizon Health Network to meet the pressing need for a new oncology clinic at the Moncton Hospital," said David Holt, chair of the foundation.

Peters, president and chief executive officer of the network. “Horizon is a leader in the provision of oncology services, and the new facilities will enhance the quality of patient care at The Moncton Hospital."
