FREDERICTON (CNB) – The 511 road weather service is being offered once again this year by the Department of Transportation in preparation for the upcoming winter driving season.

"We are pleased to offer this service to New Brunswickers as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure winter driving safety and I encourage people to use it before they head out on our highways and roads," said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. "We are always striving to make our roads as safe as possible."

Each winter, the department offers the 511 Road Weather Information Service along with its Winter Maintenance Program.

Motorists can find out more information about road and highway conditions online; by calling toll-free, 1-800-561-4063; or by dialing 511.

The department reminds motorists that they have access to its highway cameras as well as cameras operated by Brun-Way Highways Operations Inc. (Route 2 – Trans-Canada Highway and Route 95); MRDC Operations Corp. (Route 2 – Trans-Canada Highway); and Transfield Dexter Gateway Services Ltd. (Route 1). These cameras are located next to the highway at specific locations across the province as part of the Road Weather Information Service.
