FREDERICTON (CNB) – As the busy summer driving season approaches, New Brunswickers are urged to focus on vehicle maintenance. Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams met recently with representatives from the Be Car Care Aware program, a program designed to educate Canadian consumers on the benefits of performing regular vehicle maintenance.

"The current trend is for Canadians to keep their vehicles longer," said Williams. "Consumer education on the benefits of regular vehicle maintenance is an important part of keeping our roads safe and can also leave the consumer with more disposable income. The annual vehicle inspection program already in place shows that the provincial government recognizes the importance of regular vehicle maintenance."

The Be Car Care Aware program is sponsored by the Automotive Industries Association of Canada.  Through outreach programs and its website, the program reminds Canadians to focus on vehicle maintenance in order to maximize road safety, reduce the vehicle's environmental footprint, and save money by avoiding unnecessary and costly repairs.

"We are very pleased that the New Brunswick government recognizes the value of this type of consumer education program," said Marc Brazeau, president of association. "Through it’s annual vehicle inspection program, New Brunswick is committed to road safety, supporting the environment and helping its citizens keep more money in their pockets. Because of this, New Brunswick vehicles are among the safest in Canada."
